Spring 2022 Reading Series

This page contains events that are part of the developmental and staged reading series, programs for plays that are closer to theater-ready, having progressed beyond scene nights.

  • Staged readings are rehearsed with a director. Suggested $10-20 donation for non-members. Zoom readings are free; donations appreciated.
  • Developmental readings are read by actors who have reviewed the script. Suggested $5-10 donation for non-members. Zoom readings are free; donations appreciated.
  • Both types of readings are produced by the Reading Series Producers: Marsha Roberts and Scott Choate.

All readings are free to PCSF members.

Jack Rushton is a long-time collaborator with The Actors Studio of Newburyport, MA, where he produces TASN's annual short play festival, now in its fifth year. 40 of Jack's short plays have been produced at more than 150 Festivals around the country, including his George's Radio, the Andaluz Award winner at The Fusion Theater's The Seven-2017 and his Mistranslations, a finalist for the National Award-City Theater, Miami-2019. Recent debuts are: Dust Bunnies at The Chain Theater One Act Festival-NYC (February), Movie Reel at The Forge Theater Lab (February), and It Ain't Pinter at The Theater Project's Think Fast Festival (March). This will be the first public reading of Love & Loss.

A professional business writer for 10+ years, Lindsey Kirchoff started writing creatively during the pandemic. A recovering English Literature major from Tufts University, Kirchoff primarily writes short stories, screenplays, and plays. Even though she has spent countless years traveling the world as a backpacker, she is hopelessly in love with San Francisco. Sanjit Sengupta, PhD, is an emerging playwright whose work involves contemporary and historical social themes to get audiences to reflect on their own attitudes and behaviors. He was born and raised in Mumbai, India. He has had a 30+year career in U.S. higher education. He lives in Walnut Creek, CA. Several of his scripts have had Zoom readings with Play Café in Berkeley, CA. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild and New Play Exchange.

Featuring Michelle Ianaro, Derek Kingsley, Nicole Martin, Annette Oliviera, LaMont Ridgell, Richard Wenzel.

Rod McFadden began writing plays in 2009. Since then, his plays have received over 100 productions by independent theatres in San Francisco and throughout the country. He has received awards in national playwriting competitions for his plays, Love Birds, Getting the Message, and Counting on Love (which was also a Heideman award finalist). His work was chosen for the People's Choice award at the 2012 inspiraTO Festival in Toronto. One Monkey More or Less was chosen for publication in the Smith and Kraus' anthology, Best 10-Minute Plays of 2015. Rod's full-length plays include Hope's Last Chance, A House Divided, Confusion's Masterpiece, Crossing the Chasm, Kaleidoscope, and Neighborhood Watch. Rod serves on the Board of Directors for the Playwrights Center of SF.

Lee Aubry is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter; she writes transformative stories that focus on social change. Lee has an eclectic background beyond writing that includes professional experience as a: financial advisor, analyst, and trader; government affairs analyst and lobbyist; entrepreneur; cooking school teacher; and Peace Corps Volunteer.

Neil Harkins is a member of PCSF; his play Background Noise placed in the Best of PCSF Short Plays of 2021. Another of his 10-minute plays, titled Grandma Scarlet, is featured in The Unofficial Theater Group's "Modern Fairy Tales Anthology" in Spring 2022. He is currently also an assistant stage manager for Oakland Public Theater's James Baldwin Centennial retrospective. He'd like to thank his many instructors at CentralWorks, Berkeley Rep, StudioACT, and Oakland Theater Project. Neil is very excited to be working with all of the fantastic actors and volunteers at PCSF on the Spring Reading Series!


An important objective of the readings is for the playwrights to get feedback from audience members to help them develop their play to the next level of readiness. Please plan to attend as many readings as you can and participate in the feedback session following the readings.
