Sheherezade submission deadline: August 31

Playwrights, alert! In our neverending quest to continue improving Sheherezade, our annual fundraiser and night of ten-minute plays, this year, we've changed things up a bit. Please carefully read the guidelines below, grab your keyboards or feather pens, and start writing!

RULES & GUIDELINES

  1. All playwrights must be members of the Playwrights' Center in good standing—i.e., you've paid your dues this year.
  2. This year's theme is "Year in Review: 2008." Relevance to theme will have an impact on play selection.
  3. All plays must include no more than 6 actors, 3 male and 3 female. Smaller casts are greatly encouraged and will increase your chance of getting selected.
  4. While special casting for age and race will be taken into consideration for callbacks, please try to keep the play as flexible as possible.
  5. Plays should be suitable for a small stage, black-box venue. Produceability will have an impact on play selection.
  6. All plays submitted should be no more the eight (8) pages long, formatted in the Playwrights' Center standard format. Plays longer than eight pages will be shortened.
  7. All submissions should be sent to sheherezade@playwrightscentersf.org as a pdf or MSWord doc. All regular PCSF submission requirements should be included. (If your play is not properly formatted, it will be returned for reformatting. PLAY FORMAT HERE.)

Wait, you say! What if something happens between August and December that I want to write about? If that happens, selected writers can submit a new play no later than November 30. Each play will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The selection committee will decide which play to use—your first or your second. The goal of Sheherezade is to put our best foot forward, and that means our best writing. Playwrights who attend December rehearsals will have an opportunity to edit their work and turn in a final version January 6.

The production schedule is as follows: We will have callbacks for actors in late October and early November; actors will rehearse through December and January.

We look forward to reading the fabulousness you write!
